How does Battle of Breeds performance division work?
Battle of Breeds is different to the usual performance classes seen at model horse shows. These classes are about showcasing the breed in their chosen discipline, and the quality of execution of the setup. For example, you might enter an Arabian horse in a traditional costume in the Light Breeds class. Another person may also enter an Arabian horse in an endurance setup in the Light Breeds class. The criteria for judging is based upon how well the setup showcases the breed and how well executed the scene is. If you are entering a setup with a breed or model that is not stereotypically seen in the discipline you're entering - please provide reference pictures to help the judge (e.g. if you're entering a Thoroughbred in a costume).
Do I need to submit a list of my entries and what classes they're entering before the show?
No. You only need to fill out the entry form as it is.
How does the American style of entering classes work?
You will place your horse(s) on the table when the class is called, and place-getters will be recorded in the results sheet. Horses who did not place will not be recorded.
What is workmanship?
Workmanship is judged on the quality of the paintwork/finishwork and realism of the colour.
What is Owner-Artist?
Owner-Artist means somebody who painted the horse themselves that they are showing. This award is to encourage newer artists to keep practicing and get their work out there on the show tables! Showers will designate that their entry is Owner-Artist by placing a blue pebble (provided) beside their entry.
Do I need a shower number?
No. Legs tags should have your initials on one side and the horse's name and breed on the other side.
What is Novice Performance?
Novice Performance is for those who have not won an Open Championship or Reserve Championship at a Live Show with their performance setups before. It is intended to give people a fair chance to enter the world of performance showing and get feedback on their setups. You will designate that your entry is Novice by placing a blue pebble (provided) beside your entry.
What is People's Choice?
People’s Choice Award: everyone has the chance to enter just one (1) horse to win the ultimate popularity contest! All entrants will be given a token to vote for their favourite horse, and the horse with the most votes by the end of the lunch break will win a special prize! Please note that this horse must be present on the judging table by 12noon. Votes must be cast by 12.45pm.
Why are all scales combined for the breed division? My Stablemate model can't compete against the Traditionals!
The breed division is about the best example in your herd of each breed. The scale does not matter. Some micros can be excellent examples of their breed, while some traditional scales may have terrible conformation or be atypical of their breed assignment. Size will not be considered as a judging criteria for these divisions.
